Hello everyone! So, I have realized that I haven't really spoken about my second semester at college (after all, COLLEGE is in my website title). So, without further ado, COLLEGE!
My second semester at the University of Rhode Island went by so fast. It was crazy. Although the freezing cold weather that we had until March didn't help much. Seriously, after that, who WOULDN'T believe in climate change??
Anyway, this past semester I took some really great classes, and some not so great classes. I took HIS 142 (US History since 1877), ENG 201 (intro to English), ENG 251 (British Literature), GEO 103 (basic geology), and MTH 131 (Calculus). I'm beginning the process of transitioning into the School of Education. Speaking of the School of Education, I was admitted early!!! I'm so happy and excited. :D
There isn't really much else to say about the semester. Yeah, I'm boring. Deal with it. Although after my semester finished, I did attend the wonderful wedding of my friend Andrea and her, now husband, Adam. It was absolutely beautiful.
Now, into my summer. I spent the month of June volunteering/interning for the URI Ocean State Summer Writer's Conference. I had a great time, and it was such an amazing experience! I helped out behind the scenes, and for the three days of the conference, ran around like a chicken with its head cut off. I met some amazing writers, and even participated in a fiction workshop.
The conference had three keynote speakers, Ayad Ahktar (Pulitzer-prize winning playwright), Amity Gaige (prize-winning fiction writer), and Richard Blanc0 (2013 Inaugural Poet). I was fortunate to meet all three, get their work signed, take pictures, and have great conversations. It was amazing. I loved it so much, that I definitely want to volunteer the next three summers that I am here!!
After getting much rest from the conference, I have now begun to relax a bit. I have been working a lot, but also try to spend as much time as I can outside so I can work on my tan. That and enjoy the outdoors. Have a nice summer everyone!
