Hello everyone! So, it has been a while since I last posted in my blog. I've been quite busy with school, my two jobs (one of which is writing for a website, and you can see what I have been writing under the tab "Insticator Predictions"), and keeping up with things at home. But, I am back! And I hope you will enjoy this post after not reading one for two months. Here's the post in, 3!..............2!................1!
The Nerdolution Has Come
Merriam-Webster defines "nerd" in three ways: 1) a person who behaves awkwardly around other people and usually has unstylish clothes, hair, etc.; 2) a person who is very interested in technical subjects, computers, etc.; and 3) an unstylish, unattractive, or socially inept person; especially : one slavishly devoted to intellectual or academic pursuits. I am here to tell you that this dictionary, as well as many others, need to update their definitions. I am here, as a 21st century nerd, to tell you that the nerdolution has come, and we are winning.
In modern society, the term "nerd" refers more to a person's fascination and dedication to an aspect of culture. Someone can be a history nerd, a video game nerd, or an insect nerd. This stigma covers an array of subjects, mostly pertaining to popular culture. Now, in 2013, nerds are considered cool. Not only are they smart, but they have a passion for certain video games, movies, TV shows, or comics/books. I believe that being a nerd in 2013 is much more than a person's interaction and involvement in pop culture. I am proud of being this modern nerd. Nerds are now seen as more hip, and can be quite stylish with their appearance. Nerds are NOT socially inept, for nerds come from all over, from different backgrounds, and are able to form friendships. There is definitely a sense of pride when a person declares themself a nerd because there are just so many out there, in several different countries; people who speak different languages, live different lives, yet come together as one to share a passion for something.

Comic Con is where all the nerds come to gather to dress up in costumes from their favorite films, video games, comic books, and books. They attend panels that have casts for movies, TV shows, video games, and more. Comic Con has become very popular. MARVEL always has panels at Comic Con, whether it is the New York Comic Con, San Diego Comic Con, or any other one. Fans of these movies, and television shows such as True Blood, The Vampire Diaries, Revolution, Supernatural, and more, line up, waiting for these panels, sometimes days ahead. In the convention center where it is hosted, there are hundreds of booths for different games, TV and movie cast signings, and exhibitions to promote video games, movies, and new TV shows. This proves that “nerd” has expanded to something unimaginable compared to how they were thought of in the 20th century. Nerds are embraced by society now; they are part of the 21st century. They are taking over, and no one is there to stand in their way.
A popular organization created by nerds for nerds called Nerd HQ: The Nerd Machine, is known all over the world. Created by Zachary Levi of Chuck (which is very popular in the Comic Con/Nerd scene and of which, I am a big fan of), Nerd HQ: The Nerd Machine gives fans a unique experience every year at San Diego Comic Con. They provide gaming showcases, a way to experience several cutting edge technologies, and host autograph signings, events, and parties, like Zachary Levi’s infamous NERD Party. Not only do they provide this wonderful experience, but they also raise money for charities, through a panel called “Conversations for a Cause”. So not only is this giving fellow nerds the experience of a lifetime, but it is also doing something good with the platform they have. You would never see this in a time like, for instance, the 1980s. There are many dimensions and definitions for what and who a nerd is. Nerds come in all shapes, sizes, places, and lifestyles. The nerdolution has come, and we’re making a difference.
