Ten years ago, Mean Girls became part of our lives. It has become part of American culture, and is probably quoted millions of times a day (that's just a rough estimate I thought up just now). A lot has changed since the movie came out. Especially its actors' careers. So what is going on with the Plastics, Cady, Damian, and Janis?!
| Rachel McAdams (Regina George) In the same year of Mean Girls being released, another one of Rachel's films, that made her the ultimate "It" girl at the time, was released. Two words. The Notebook. She continued to star in great, romantic, and hilarious movies, such as Wedding Crashers, The Lucky Ones, The Time Traveler's Wife, Sherlock Holmes (as well as the sequel), Morning Glory, Midnight In Paris, The Vow, Passion, and most recently, About Time. She has been nominated 29 times for several different awards, winning 13 of them. She just finished filming two films, Every Thing Will Be Fine (also starring James Franco), and an untitled Cameron Crowe project. The latter has an all-star cast that includes Emma Stone, Bradley Cooper, Bill Murray, Jay Baruchel, John Krasinski, Alec Baldwin, and Danny McBride. She is currently voicing a character for the animated movie The Little Prince, also starring James Franco, Paul Giamatti, Jeff Bridges, and Benicio Del Toro. |
Lacey Chabert (Gretchen Wieners) Lacey made "fetch" a thing. She should be proud. After Mean Girls, Lacey guest starred on several TV shows, starred in many TV movies, and starred in movies such as Dirty Deeds and Ghosts of Girlfriends Past. She has done many films that haven't had much recognition, but she has been keeping busy! She is currently filming a few TV movies. | |
| Amanda Seyfried (Karen Smith) Amanda Seyfried has come a long way since her "predicting rain with my boobs" days. She guest starred in multiple episodes of Veronica Mars, and starred in the TV series Big Love. She has also starred in many movies, such as Mamma Mia!, Jennifer's Body, Dear John, In Time, Les Miserables, Lovelace, and The Big Wedding. Her new movie, A Million Ways To Die In The West, will be coming out May 30th, and stars Seth MacFarlane, Neil Patrick Harris, Sarah Silverman, Charlize Theron, and Liam Neeson. She just finished filming While We're Young alongside Ben Stiller, Naomi Watts and Adam Driver. Amanda is currently filming Pan (with Rooney Mara, Hugh Jackman, and Garrett Hedlund) and Fathers and Daughters (with Aaron Paul, Russell Crowe, Diane Kruger, and Octavia Spencer). |
Lindsay Lohan (Cady Heron) The year after Mean Girls, Lindsay filmed Herbie Fully Loaded. After that, there was a long, downwards spiral that she went into. She partied (way too) hard, got plastic surgery, was a lesbian, went to jail a few times, and recently went to rehab. Now, she is clean and sober (let's hope for good). Although she's had her many, many, many bad moments through the years, she seems to be at a good place now. I really do hope she can stay healthy and out of trouble. She recently starred in the movie The Canyons, and now has her own documentary series on The Oprah Winfrey Network. |
Daniel Franzese (Damian) Daniel has had a very low-key film career since starring in Mean Girls, appearing in many films and shorts. He recently made the news when he wrote a letter to his Mean Girls character Damian, in which he said he was gay. You can read the letter here: http://blogs.indiewire.com/bent/actor-daniel-franzese-writes-a-touching-coming-out-letter-to-his-iconic-mean-girls-character-damian-20140422 |
Lizzy Caplan (Janis Ian) Lizzy's career has skyrocketed since starring in Mean Girls. Since then, she has starred in many popular films, such as Cloverfield, Hot Tub Time Machine, 127 Hours, Save the Date, and most recently, the hilarious Bachelorette. She has also had multiple guest appearances on TV shows, such as American Dad and New Girl. She guest starred in True Blood opposite Ryan Kwanten as one of Jason Stackhouse's love interests. She now stars on her own show, Masters of Sex, also starring Michael Sheen. Lizzy won an award at the Newport Beach Film Festival (reppin RI! woot woot) for Outstanding Achievement in Acting in the film Save the Date. She just finished filming a movie called The Interview, which also stars James Franco and Seth Rogen (that ought to be funny!). |
