The Nerdolution Has Come
In modern society, the term "nerd" refers more to a person's fascination and dedication to an aspect of culture. Someone can be a history nerd, a video game nerd, or an insect nerd. This stigma covers an array of subjects, mostly pertaining to popular culture. Now, in 2013, nerds are considered cool. Not only are they smart, but they have a passion for certain video games, movies, TV shows, or comics/books. I believe that being a nerd in 2013 is much more than a person's interaction and involvement in pop culture. I am proud of being this modern nerd. Nerds are now seen as more hip, and can be quite stylish with their appearance. Nerds are NOT socially inept, for nerds come from all over, from different backgrounds, and are able to form friendships. There is definitely a sense of pride when a person declares themself a nerd because there are just so many out there, in several different countries; people who speak different languages, live different lives, yet come together as one to share a passion for something.
